earthquake weather

out in these parts, no one slept past seven.

shook out of sleep by a great primordial moan,

our eyes opened in unison.

waking together, a collective question was posed:

is this The Big One?

our backs hardened, our pupils grew wide

and we all looked for a pair of pants

as the earth arched her spine and banged her fists against our walls.

cracks in the crust,                               exposing something deeper,

tremors in the framework,                     that act as our skeleton,

an upheaval of the foundation,             that we’ve built everything upon

a reminder                                             from something subterranean

that we are not in charge here.

wake up, she dares us,

all together now.

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for reading. Many of you know that I’ve been writing in this blog for over five (!) years now–all for free. I’ve given this a lot of thought and what I’ve come to is this–from now on you’ll notice that there will be a little “donate” link at the end of each one of my posts. I’ve spoken with other writers and artists about this, and we all think that it’s time to start being compensated for our work. Art is a crucial part of any society, and it’s important that we treat it as such. To give away our art for free is perpetuating the idea that our work is valueless. However, I don’t feel comfortable charging for this site at this time, but I thought I would add an optional donation link because hey, a girl’s gotta eat! Please feel free to donate as much or as little as you’d like (or not at all!). Also–I promise to send a handwritten thank you note to anyone who makes a donation of any amount 🙂 THANK YOU!
I hope you all enjoy the last days of summer. Thank you so much for reading, I really appreciate it!
Click here to make a donation for Georgie’s writing. Thank you so much!
